FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK
Last week we saw that Mark Driscoll recommends talking to the younger generation about how the gospel connects to this life. We live in a fast-paced, shortsighted world, so it is important to remind people that a relationship with Jesus makes the here and now much more fulfilling and joyful. Driscoll makes a similar point in Signpost #2 entitled: “The Gospel Infuses Daily Activities with Meaning.” He writes:
"Every day, people eat, sleep, work, play, love, and hate, but they do not know why. Not knowing where they come from or to whom they are going, they lack the ability to make their lives meaningful. Consequently, our culture is filled with “successful” people who are mired in anxiety and confusion because they do not know the point of all their toil. But the gospel reveals Jesus as Lord over all of life, who infuses even mundane tasks such as dishwashing with meaning as acts of worship."
Imagine how empty life would feel if you did not know why you were even alive to begin with. What is the point of life if we are all living things just randomly spit out by the world at the time of the “big bang?” This empty, pointless existence, however, is what people are living with every day as they exist apart from Christ. In light of this, it is our job as Christians to give the next generations hope and meaning for their lives. Jesus makes life worth living! Our desire to glorify him and his overwhelming love for the world give us a reason to get up each morning. As Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” This “full life” can start now here on earth and others need to know it!
Your Brother in Christ,
Paul
